A trip to the Sahara Desert is an adventure that should not be missed while in Morocco. Starting from Marrakesh, you will traverse the stunning High Atlas mountains and explore the valleys of southern Morocco. Along the way, you will witness life in small villages, walk through ancient Kasbahs, and hike through massive gorges. All of this leads to one of the most spectacular places on earth...the Sahara Desert. You won't be disappointed! Climb the highest dune to witness inspiring sunsets, take a camel ride through the desert landscape, and experience firsthand the nomadic lifestyle of people who have lived here for centuries.

3-Day Itinerary from Marrakech to Merzouga:

Day 1 - Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Gorge

Your driver will pick you up from your accommodations around 9:00 in the morning. You will begin your journey over the High Atlas mountains, crossing Tizi N Tichka at an elevation of 2260 meters. Descending into southern valleys of Morocco where you'll find numerous Kasbahs including Ait Ben Haddou. There will be plenty of stops along the way to witness life both in mountains and valleys before reaching Dades Gorge where you'll spend your first night at a guest house.

Day 2 - Dades Gorge - Todra Gorge - Merzouga - Sahara Desert Camp

Start off with a delicious Moroccan breakfast before embarking on a drive and short hike through Dades Gorges. Marvel at amazing rock formations as you walk beneath 300-meter-high red cliffs. Then, continue your journey to Merzouga with stops in villages like Erfoud, known for its famous fossil products, and Rissani. Arrive at your luxury desert camp in the Sahara Desert where you can climb the tallest dune to witness a breathtaking sunset. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner under the stars accompanied by beautiful Saharan music before retiring for the night in a luxury tent.

Day 3 - Sahara Desert Camp - Agdez - Marrakech

Wake up early to catch a stunning sunrise before having breakfast. Afterward, take a camel ride through the desert before departing on your journey back to Marrakesh. Along the way, make a stop in Agdez to see one of Morocco's largest palm groves. Then travel back over the Atlas Mountain for more spectacular view. Your private driver will then take you directly to your chosen accommodations in Marrakech.

4 day itinerary from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga in the Sahara Desert

This 4-day tour takes you on a remarkable journey from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga in the Sahara Desert. You will venture through the majestic Atlas Mountains, experiencing their breathtaking beauty, and continue onward to the enchanting palm groves of the Draa Valley. As you make your way into vast expanses of the Sahara Desert, you will be immersed in the captivating landscapes and cultural richness of Morocco. This trip promises an unforgettable adventure, combining natural wonders with cultural experiences.

Day 1: Marrakech to High Atlas Mountains to Agdez

Your journey to the desert begins in the morning. Your private driver will arrive at your accommodations around 9:00 and escort you to your private transportation. On this day, you will travel over the Atlas Mountains and through the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2260 meters) to Ounila Valley with its ancient villages and Kasbahs. We will then cross over the Anti-Atlas and down to Draa Valley en route to Agdz village, where we will spend our first night. Relax in a riad or take a stroll through palm groves before enjoying an amazing dinner prepared by local women with locally sourced ingredients in an authentic Moroccan setting.

Day 2: Agdez - Zagora - M’hamid - Erg Chigaga

Day 2 begins with a stroll through palm groves and a beautiful Moroccan breakfast before we embark on our four-hour journey through Draa Valley (home to three million date palms and hundreds of Kasbahs) towards Zagora, Tamegroute (famous for its green-glazed pottery found all over the region), and finally M'Hamid...the end of road where Sahara begins. We transfer onto 4x4 vehicles for an off-road adventure through sand dunes. Witness herds of camels sheep and goats as we make our way towards Erg Chigaga, our home for next two nights.

Day 3: Sahara Desert - Erg Chigaga

Wake up early in the morning for a camel ride to watch the sunrise over Erg Chigaga. After your private camel ride, return to camp for a beautifully prepared Moroccan breakfast. Spend the day relaxing or enjoy desert activities like sandboarding, visiting a local nomadic family, exploring a Saharan oasis, or participating in a cooking class. For more adventurous options, an ATV tour of the dunes is available with prior reservations and an additional charge. In the evening, climb the highest sand dune for a sundowner celebration and toast to one of the world's most amazing sunsets before enjoying an amazing dinner. End your perfect day with a nightcap by the campfire while listening to traditional Saharan music. Don't forget to indulge in some stargazing!

Day 4: Erg Chigaga - Foum Zguid - Taznakht - Ait Ben haddou - Marrakech

After breakfast, begin your journey back to Marrakech. Cross the Sahara Desert for three hours until reaching Foum Zguid village where you can stop for lunch before continuing on towards Taznakht (known for its rugs). The final stop will be at Ait Ben haddou before reaching our journey's end in Marrakech.

An extra day on your journey back to Marrakech to spend in a Kasbah close to Ait ben haddo. The next day take a tour of Ait ben haddou and the surrounding areas before heading back to Marrakesh
